HCT (Hematocrit)
Normal Range - 0.37 - 0.50

Your Blood is composed mainly of Red and White Blood Cells which are suspended in Serum. Your HCT Level will indictate the percentage of Red Blood Cells. Too many can cause problems, likewise too few.

If you have a low level HCT, also known as Anemia, it could indicate any of the following.
Pregnant
Colon Cancer
Internal Bleeding
Red Blood Cell Destruction (sickle cell anemia)
Enlarged Spleen
Red Blood Cell Production Halted , eg (bone marrow suppression, cancer, drugs)
Nutritional deficiencies such as Low Iron, B12, Folate, Malnutrition
Overhydration

If you have a high level it could be because of
Oxygen Loss, eg Smoking , Pulmonary Fibrosis
Dehydration
Genetic (congenital heart diseases)
Erythrocytosis (Red blood cell over produced by the bone marrow or polycythemia vera)

HCT IN RELATION TO ANABOLIC STEROIDS / BODYBUILDING
High HCT levels should be a real genuine concern to the Bodybuilder using Anabolic Steroids.
High HCT levels can lead to Elevated Blood Pressure and of course thickening of the blood, which in turn can lead to problems with Blood Flowing through Arteries and Blood Vessels which can then lead onto Heart Attack or Stroke.
FACT, Steroids WILL increase HCT, but with careful use this can be controlled. Remember it is Abuse of Steroids over long periods of time which can cause the issues, but careful use and regular monitoring and we can avoid the dangers.
Almost all Steroids will increase your HCT Levels, with Equipoise being one of the big contributors to elevating HCT.
a level above 54% is certainly a level you MUST TAKE ACTION with because otherwise cardiovascular damage is going to occur.
It is worth noting that in women the number will be much lower, with 46% being the max!
If your HCT Levels do get too high, you can bring them down again by donating blood. Unfortunately if your levels are far too high, they may not allow you to donate blood.
Your Doctor maybe able to get you an appointment with someone to undergo Phlebotomy treatments which of course involves blood removal.
HCT Levels WILL return to normal when you donate blood. In effect you are removing the bad blood and allowing good blood to reform!
Staying Hydrated properly can help bring HCT levels down. So for those using Anabolic Steroids, who will undoubtedly have Elevated HCT levels you can follow the following steps to ensure a healthy range.
    hydrate properly with water
    1 baby Aspirin a day
    Donate blood regularly
Dont Abuse many compounds with massive dosages
Take breaks from cycle here and there
