Ive been using windows 8 and I really like it. Theres a few glitches with it but in general its very quick and well laid out.

I prefer osx on macs though so Ive turned my Intel i5 into a hackintosh running OSX Mountain Lion :)

I think you need to look at what processor youre using a pentium isnt an i7 - pentiums are chopped down and really slow Im sorry to say.

On my Intel i5 with 8 gig ram it runs really fast. I then added an ssd in and it was like shit off a shovel fast.

My mistake its a itel i7 just paid a grand for the laptop at Christmas the problem is when I open task manager the disk usage is stuck on 100 percent which is slowing every thing down. Any idea

Ok we need to go into processes and see whats causing the issue I would say. Something will be pushing the disk all the time. I can remote in and have a look for you if you install teamviewer available at teamviewer.com then drop me a pm with the id and pass if you would like?

Ill be online all afternoon.

Andy

On windows 8 the built in security actually performs better than most paid for anti virus products mate - just stick with that - It caught every virus I got on windows 8 and got rid of them

Just laid my hands on a skip rescue SFF core2duo machine, 2gb ram, shoddy onboard vga, 80gb hdd. coupled with a skip rescue screen. Have installed Win8 on it and its running very nicely as a retro games machine for my boy. This weekend i have the task of embedding the whole thing into a glass topped coffee table...

i should upgrade the vga card but as its a SFF i wont be able to get a mega fancy card or owt like that, maybe radeon 5570. I have a few laptop SSD's kicking around at home, not sure if its worth the effort to rebuild again (any good software for imaging a drive to another?) Also, anyone know a decent bit of remote control software that WONT bring up a warning bubble? ( i need it background and keep the gaming software as the prominent window)

Note, this is not my main system, this is just a retro gaming machine for my kiddo that is being blended into the furniture! I have a mac pro, mac air, win7 laptop and several ubuntu laptops.

Remote control software? Can you not just use linux on the box and ssh in?
